Why Client Retention is Key to Building a Six Figure Online Business

Today I want to share with you one of the most important things I’ve learned growing my business to half a million dollars in revenue in just 3.5 years. 

This is the thing that helped me to shift from a bit of a plateau of $10,000-$15,000 months to now bringing in consistent $30k+ months with greater ease and with more white space in my calendar than ever. 

This is the thing that’s helping me do things like spend multiple weekends away in high end resorts each month whilst living in Thailand. 

And it’s so simple.

Client retention.

What is Client Retention?

Client retention is all about retaining your existing clients.

You see, every client you welcome into your world has something called a Customer Lifetime Value. The higher this number is, the better. Because it costs money to bring new customers into your world. 

In fact, Forbes reported that acquiring new clients can cost between five to seven times more than what it costs to retain an existing one.

In 2023 our client retention rate is over 80%. But it wasn’t always this high.

Improve Your Client Retention With This Simple Shift

When I first started my online business, one of the things that kept happening over and over again was that I would sign clients into my coaching containers, but once their three months of coaching were up, the client would leave. 

They wouldn’t re-sign with me and I knew it wasn’t because I was providing a subpar experience because the feedback was phenomenal and all my clients seemed really happy with me. 

I spent so much time wracking my brain about this…I couldn’t for the life of me understand why people weren’t sticking around.

And then it hit me. They literally had nowhere to go.

My offers weren’t structured in a way that was designed for long term retention. 

Fast forward to today and you can see a clear client journey that my audience can go on as they progress further along in their business.

Providing a Next Level Client Experience

Which brings me to my next point, keeping your clients happy. 

Which can be done in so many ways. Of course the obvious one is getting them results but there are other things too that often get overlooked by newer business owners. 

Sadly I’ve been inside coaching containers where I didn’t feel fully supported and so I’m really passionate about my clients feeling supported from the moment they apply to work with me. 

I’ve invested in tech and automations which allow a seamless onboarding process and providing extra touches like check in forms with my clients so that they can genuinely get the most out of our time together. 

Check-in forms are a great method of accountability for my clients, but also for me as their coach and it allows me to see any gaps in their strategy but also gives me the opportunity to fill any gaps that I notice coming up from my end.  

This is exactly why I recently brought in a resident mindset coach to support my clients inside our containers.

Whilst I definitely have skills and tips to improve your mindset, I’m not specifically a Mindset Coach and I knew that my clients would benefit from continued in-house support from someone who specialises in this.
